Position: Law Clerk
Job Description:
Assignments will vary covering a broad spectrum of issues arising out of the practice areas of the law firm. In general, this position requires the law clerk to directly assist the senior attorney in preparing cases for trial, conducting legal research and case law analysis using Westlaw and Lexis Nexis, drafting legal memoranda, drafting legal briefs and prehearing statements for immigration court proceedings. The position will require the applicant to interview detainees at the various detention centers in Florida and possibly Georgia. The position will further require the candidate to draft post-conviction relief motions and supporting memoranda of law.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed a Juris Doctorate Degree from a U.S. ABA accredited law school. Applicant must have at least a year and a half of practical experience working with attorneys. Applicants must commit to working late, arriving early, working weekends and holidays; on short notice, as needed. A long-term, good faith commitment is essential for this position. Exceptional writing, grammar, and communicative abilities, as well as case/client management skills. Applicant must be self-motivated and able to work independently, and as a team-player. Further requirements for this position are:
- Applicants must demonstrate attention to detail;
- Proficiency with legal researching on Westlaw and Lexis Nexis;
- Familiarity with a billing and case management software program;
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Package;
- Must be willing to travel in the State of Florida to the location of any of the immigration detention centers and immigration courts; as well as, to the location of any of the immigration detention centers and immigration courts in the State of Georgia.
